A new high-tech training facility featuring two training modules on border risk analysis will be developed with the support from European experts in the Border Service Institute of Belarus.

The modules designed to facilitate the training of border security analysts and specialists on detection of illicit weapons and explosives at the border-crossing checkpoints in Belarus and will particularly focus on

  • on the application of border risk analysis and forecasting techniques;
  • on location of weapons and ammunition at checkpoints.

The training will not be focused only on the problems of combating smuggling and illegal circulation of weapons and ammunition, but also on other types of cross-border illegal activities, such as illegal migration, human trafficking, terrorism and extremism, as well as drug trafficking.

Teaching methods combine a set of lectures, seminars, workshops and monitoring sessions on each topic as well as feature informative multimedia support for each part.

Trainers and instructors will be educated to provide training based on the developed modules at the central, regional and local levels.

The training will be implemented at two levels. The first level aims at cadets, students of staff training and retraining courses. The second level is more advanced and is designed for expert training.

It is expected that next year the project "Strengthening Capacity of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus in Combatting Illicit Trafficking of Weapons and Ammunition", funded by Germany, will open a new high-tech room for border security analysts training at the Border Service Institute.

The partnership between UNDP, the State Border Committee and Germany aimed at building a reliable, long-term basis for further effective development of the technology-driven training architecture of the Belarusian border personnel in areas, where they need more training, modern knowledge and skills.
