An Illustrated Journey through Belarus

The 2023/24 Human Development Report (HDR), titled “Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining cooperation in a polarized world", reveals a troubling trend: the rebound in the global Human Development Index (HDI) – a summary measure reflecting a country’s Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, education, and life expectancy – has been partial, incomplete, and unequal.
Rich countries are experiencing record-high levels of human development while half of the world’s poorest countries remain below their pre-crisis level of progress.
Uneven development progress is leaving the poorest behind, exacerbating inequality, and stoking political polarization on a global scale. The result is a dangerous gridlock that must be urgently tackled through collective action.
The report emphasizes how global interdependence is being reconfigured and proposes a path forward where multilateralism plays a pivotal role.

Belarus ranks 69th among 193 countries in the world and belongs to the group of states with a very high level of human development. The Human Development Index for Belarus in 2022 was 0.801.

Driving the Future of Development

2023 was a year of deep disruption – the hottest year on record, a proliferation of conflicts, pervasive inequalities. In this context, UNDP stepped forward to support countries address the greatest development challenges of our time. 
UNDP delivered a record $4.9 billion in support to programme countries to tackle multidimensional poverty, promote gender equality, strengthen accountable and inclusive governance, increase energy access and build resilience to crises and climate change, maintaining the development promise to accompany countries in their journey towards a more sustainable future.
