Former Secretary-General Kofi Annan dies at the age of 80.

The former head of the UN dies after short illness at the age of 80 in Bern, Switzerland. Mr. Kofi Annan headed the UN for 10 years starting in 1997. He later served as the UN special envoy for Syria. In 2001 he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for his tremendous efforts to advocate for human rights and to revitalise the UN system.
