The production of the first Belarusian environmentally friendly coolant starts in Homiel

May 25, 2017

The launch of the first Belarusian environmentally friendly coolant production line has taken place at the JSC «Gomelhimtorg» today. The manufacturing capacity of the line will allow to produce 1,000 tonnes of the new product per year.

The production has been launched by the “Environmental security of coolants for internal combustion engines” pilot initiative within the "Supporting the Transition to a “green” economy in the Republic of Belarus" project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNDP in Belarus. The implementation of the initiative was ensured by the partnership between the Information and Consulting Agency “Assistance to business development" and JSC «Gomelhimtorg».

The production of the first Belarusian environmentally friendly coolant for internal combustion engines will help to solve the problem of poisonous coolants disposal and contribute to preserving the environment. Belarusian car owners will get an opportunity to use environmentally safe coolants that are not accumulated in soil. Moreover, new jobs in production of safe coolants have been created.

Samples of the new “Eko-100” product have already undergone laboratory tests at еру Republican Scientific and Practical Centre of Hygiene where its environmental safety has been proven. According to the results of the tests, the new coolant has been attributed to low-risk chemical compositions (4th hazard class). The new product does not require recycling and is able to substitute more expensive foreign analogues of the 1st and 2nd hazard class. This allows to reduce the financial burden on enterprises as there is no need to dispose the used coolant.

13 equipment items have been purchased and installed by ICA “Assistance to business development” to organize the production of the new coolant, among them – 5 items of unique equipment.

Legal and management documents that help to establish the sales of environmentally friendly coolants and ensure the management of environmentally friendly production have been developed within the pilot initiative.

The project "Supporting the Transition to a “green” economy in the Republic of Belarus", within which the new coolant production has been launched, aims at supporting the Republic of Belarus in generating “green” economic growth, including environmentally sustainable and economically feasible use of natural resources, promotion of green production and green consumption patterns, green jobs creation, changing target group's behavior towards greater environmental sustainability. The budget of the project – 5 million euro.
