New UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative presented his credentials to the Prime Minister of Belarus

“UNDP programs and projects in Belarus cover different areas of the economy and meet the national priorities of Belarus”, the Head of the Belarusian Government said today at a meeting with new UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Mr. Sanaka Samarasinha.

Mr. Samarasinha presented Mikhail Myasnikovich his credentials from the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon who designated him as UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus and expressed hope that cooperation between the UN and Belarus will continue to develop successfully.

Mr. Myasnikovich mentioned the productivity of joint projects with UNDP and expressed hope that the work of Mr. Samarasinha in the capacity of the UN/UNDP representative would be successful. “I think that with your appointment to this high post we will increase the number of projects and programs, – said the Prime Minister. – We are very interested in continuing and enhancing cooperation with the UN.”

Mr. Sanaka Samarasinha is a citizen of Sri Lanka. Before this appointment, he served in various offices of UNDP, and in particular, as Director a.i., Global Centre for Public Service Excellence, Singapore; Senior Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Iran; Officer in Charge, Maldives; Director a.i., Kosovo and Officer in Charge of UNDP Samoa, Niue, Tokelau and the Cook Islands.
