Climate and disaster resilience
Environment is essential for sustainable development. The poor are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation and lack of access to clean affordable energy services. These issues are also global ones because climate change, loss of biodiversity and ozone layer depletion cannot be addressed by countries acting alone. UNDP will assist in applying the principles of green economy and gender-sensitive green urban development by promoting the use of renewable energy resources, particularly wind energy, and by improving energy efficiency standards and waste management mechanisms. UNDP will support the capacity of Belarus to tackle climate change through the development of disaster-risk reduction strategies and the setting up of international river basin coordination mechanisms, including preservation and expansion of protected areas and management of the country’s significant forest resources.
Our progress in Belarus
UNDP in Belarus has implemented a number of successful projects aimed at improving energy efficiency, encouraging more extensive use of renewable energy, combating land degradation, improving protection and efficiency of use of natural resources, conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable development at the local level.more
